Discover the Ins and Outs of Cake and Candy Making

Learn the correct ways to use many of the items we sell at Cincinnati Cake & Candy Supplies. Our baking, cake decorating, and candy making classes cover a wide range of topics that teach you step-by-step a variety of skills you can use right away and for years to come. Classes fill up fast, and, since registration is limited, you will want to sign up early to reserve your space!

How to register for class: You may register for class online or by phone (513-821-6161) with a credit card. If you prefer to pay by cash, you may register in person (we do not accept personal checks). Full payment is required to complete registration.  Full refund is given only if you cancel at least  five (5) days before the class. After this deadline, no refunds or credit will be issued.

Classes

Advanced Borders

Do all your cakes look alike when it comes to the borders? Tired of the same old zigzags and shells? Dress up your cakes with ruffles, swags, string work and more. We'll also show you how to make amazing borders with a minimum of effort using the South American Ruffle Tips. This class requires a basic knowledge of cake decorating.

Basic Borders

Now that you've finished Basic Class and have decorated a few cakes, it's time to try some new borders. In this class, we'll do a quick refresher on the borders you learned in Basic to fine tune your skills and then add some new borders and side work so all your cakes don't end up looking alike. These will include c-motion, e-motion, fleur-de-lis, rope, reverse shell, crown, zigzag puffs, drop strings, ruffles and more. This class requires a basic knowledge of cake decorating.

Basic Cake Decorating

A class that teaches you the basics of cake decorating. The class will meet the same night each week for 2 1/2 hours, for four consecutive weeks. You will be shown how to ice and border cakes, how to torte a cake with fruit fillings, basic flowers including a rose and rosebud, chocolate molding, writing, basketweave, simple figure piping including a clown, lacework, use of colors, etc. Students are required to bring a single layer 10-inch round iced cake to Lesson 4. All supplies are available at Cincinnati Cake & Candy Supplies, Inc.

Candy Making Basics

Yummy truffles, turtles, peanut butter cups, chocolate covered cherries and so much more. Learn all these delicious homade candies in this 2-1/2 hour demonstration class. Learn about the different types of chocolate and how to work with each of them. You will learn to mold simple candies, dip cream centers and pieces, and to make filled pieces using molds. Each student will recieve a collection of recipes and samples to taste.

Fondant Basics

This class will introduce you to basic fondant techniques. You will learn how to prepare and cover a round cake, easy borders and swags, basic molding, and a ribbon rose (as much as time allows).

Roses and More

In this class you will learn to make flowers with upright petals. These flowers can be made using either buttercream or royal icing. You will be shown the rose, carnation, chrysanthemum, aster, marigold and bachelor button (as many as time allows). This class requires a basic knowledge of cake decorating.

Royal Icing Flowers

In this class you will learn the basic flat petal flowers. You will be shown the apple blossom, sunflower, pansy, violet, poinsettia, daisy, daffodil and primrose (as many as time allows). These flowers can be made in advance using royal icing and dried so they're ready for that special cake. This class requires a basic knowledge of cake decorating.
