Discover the Ins and Outs of Cake and Candy Making

Learn the correct ways to use many of the items we sell at Cincinnati Cake & Candy Supplies. Our baking, cake decorating, and candy making classes cover a wide range of topics that teach you step-by-step a variety of skills you can use right away and for years to come. Classes fill up fast, and, since registration is limited, you will want to sign up early to reserve your space!

How to register for class: You may register for class online or by phone (513-821-6161) with a credit card. If you prefer to pay by cash, you may register in person (we do not accept personal checks). Full payment is required to complete registration.  Full refund is given only if you cancel at least  five (5) days before the class. After this deadline, no refunds or credit will be issued.

Classes

Basic Cookie Decorating

This class will begin with mixing, rolling, cutting and baking cookies to decorate. Stick insertion for cookie bouquets will also be covered at this time. We will then learn different methods of glazing, icing, and decorating cookies. Each student will then decorate 10-12 cookies using the methods shown. All cookies, icings, and tools will be provided. No additional supplies are needed.

Cake Balls

What are cake balls? Cake Balls are an old southern tradition that is slowly becoming popular all across the country.. The Cake Ball Company based in Austin, Texas is now selling their cake balls nationwide, including the Neiman Marcus Catalog. We feel Cake Balls will be the next hot dessert trend -- the new cupcake. Traditionally these cake balls are vanilla or chocolate cake mixed with a little icing and then dipped in chocolate. We start with chocolate and vanilla cake and then add other ingredients to make German Chocolate, Italian Cream Cake, Raspberry, Mojito, The Elvis Special, Chocolate Buzzz, Dreamsicle and many more. Each student will make and decorate one type of cake ball. Finished Cake Balls will be divided equally among the students to take home. You will receive all recipes used in the class. No supplies are needed for this class. Everything will be provided.

Candy Making Basics

Yummy truffles, turtles, peanut butter cups, chocolate covered cherries and so much more. Learn all these delicious homemade candies in this 2-1/2 hour demonstration class. Learn about the different types of chocolate and how to work with each of them. You will learn to mold simple candies, dip cream centers and pieces, and to make filled pieces using molds. Each student will receive a collection of recipes and samples to taste.

Comprehensive Cake Decorating

A class that teaches you the basics of cake decorating. The class will meet the same night each week for 2 1/2 hours, for four consecutive weeks. You will be shown how to ice and border cakes, how to torte a cake with fruit fillings, basic flowers including a rose and rosebud, chocolate molding, writing, basketweave, simple figure piping including a clown, lacework, use of colors, etc. STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO BRING AN ICED 10-INCH ROUND CAKE TO LESSON 4. All supplies are available at Cincinnati Cake & Candy Supplies, Inc.

Fondant Basics

Learn to apply fondant quickly and flawlessly using The Mat application system. No more pleats and tears and pulling your hair out. We'll start by learning to tint and marbleize pre-made fondant. You will then learn how to make bow loops, cut-outs, embossing and a quick & easy rose. Each student will decorate a cake using the techniques shown and go home with a completely decorated cake to impress friends and family.

Simple Cupcakes

Cupcakes are all the rage today! Even those with very little decorating can sell for $3 each. Learn to make those cupcakes at home for a fraction of the cost. We will learn some easy baking, icing, and decorating techniques using buttercream icing and rolled fondant. Each student will then decorate a dozen cupcakes to take home to share with family and friends.. Cupcakes, icing, fondant and all decorating tools will be provided.

Simply Pie

Is pie the new cupcake? New versions of the all-American favorite pie are increasingly popping up at bakeries and restaurants. Pie has replaced cake at some weddings. There are pie happy hours and pie shooters served in shot glasses. In this hands-on class we will start with the most feared part of making pies, the crust. We will cover the ingredients and techniques to make the perfect pie crust then each student will make enough crust for a double-crust pie. We will then make a two-crust fruit pie, a single crust cream pie and several other projects including single serving hand pies and pie pops. Each student will receive all recipes used in class and will take home all projects they create plus samples of others that are demonstrated.
